International Clash Day 2025!

International Clash Day was established by Seattle alt-radio station KEXP in 2013 to celebrate "the enduring influence of the Clash's music and human rights message". We are taking that baton and bringing it all back home to Hastings on the south coast on Saturday 1st February 2025.

Hastings is a 'Clash town'. Both The Clash and Joe Strummer's last band, The Mescaleros, played storming shows on Hastings Pier. The Pig music venue - opposite Hastings Pier - is the perfect location for the UK celebration of International Clash Day. Local residents/legends the Rude Boy, the Comrade and Mr Tymon Dogg will be joined by Joe - 48 Thrills - Williams, the Lone Groover and Clash tribute par excellence, Take the 5th - who play the songs of The Clash (not just the obvious ones) and nobody does it better! We hope that the first International Clash Day event - which will also be supporting The Joe Strummer Single Homeless Project -  will become an annual event in Hastings on the first Saturday of February for years to come!

We look forward to being joined by a large turnout from the Clash fraternity. Tickets are on sale now! (Tix will be sent out from November.)

A night to go down in history... Epic!!! Just a shame Joe wasn't there. The real deal.

Arms Aloft in Acton Town was set up by members of the Fire Brigades Union and other trade unionists who wanted to memorialise Joe Strummer and the Mescalero's support for the FBU at Acton Town Hall on the 15th November 2002. We returned to Acton Town Hall in 2007 with Billy Bragg and Tymon Dogg and put on a 10th anniversary event at the Tabernacle with Hard-Fi and the Men They Couldn't Hang in 2012. Then, in 2017, Mick Jones joined the Rotten Hill Gang under the Westway to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Acton and gave us the 'Thrilla at Maxilla' - a night no one who was there will ever forget! We returned to Maxilla in 2022 and marked the 20th anniversary in similar style! The Acton FBU benefit was a generous and inspiring shot in the arm for striking fire fighters during a bitter national dispute and now symbolises all the reasons Joe Strummer continues to be so well remembered twenty years after his passing. We hope the annual International Clash Day event which will be held on the first Saturday of February in Hastings will help to uphold the great musical and cultural legacy of both The Clash and Joe Strummer.
